  Discuss desires for the new garden  with all members of the household.

Obtain a scaled drawing of the property that needs attention.

  Make a list of the features that are desired in the new landscape.

 Collect magazine clippings and bookmark garden books with examples of gardens that you like.

 Walk around your neighborhood and study what you do and don't like.

 Think about the budget for this project and what you are prepared to spend. A realistic estimate will help the designer to create an affordable design.
